CritterChitChat.com is the new site name for what was originally known as AnimalChattv.com. ACTV.com had been created as cyber support for the TV show of the same name and was the brainchild of
broadcaster/writer/producer & photographer, Kate Porter. The show was first aired on Time/Warner Cable TV 10 in the Fall of 2000 and immediately took off, quickly becoming a viewing highlight for thousands of the Coachella Valley's TV watching pet owners and animal lovers.
Whether it was profiling local non-profit pet help organizations, visiting a desert goat farm and playing with the zany goats, or educating the viewer on how to care for their special animal companions, this warm and fuzzy TV half hour seemed to answer the needs of the pet loving community. AnimalChatTV was enjoyed for over 5 years and now, happily, has evolved into CritterChitChat, which will soon be featured on TV and will include a weekly radio show as well. Watch here for the time and place. Kate Porter Always an animal advocate, Kate's current passion is to "celebrate animals and the people who love them" thru various forms of media...TV, radio, the internet, magazines and books. “I see the pet/human relationship as crucial to the mutual well-being of both." As an example, Kate added, “When a pet accidentally gets away and wanders off, the loss and search for that little animal is not only terrifying for the pet, but devastating for the human companion as well. There is simply no question that keeping our pets safe keeps our hearts "safe" too and that caring about one, is a way of caring for both.” Kate is also a respected communications professional. Not only does she now produce and host “Time Warner Cares” ( a 1/2 hour TV show that Kate originally conceived) that profiles various non-profit organizations here in the desert, she is a published Writer & Photographer with Newsweek credits and has a photographic series on the ERA in the National Archives. She is a published Writer & Photographer with Newsweek credits and has a photographic series on the ERA in the National Archives. Please visit Kate's Photography site, KatePorterPhotography.net As a Narrator, Kate was given an Emmy for her voicing of the on-going PBS series, "Cycles of Life: Exploring Biology". She is also the voice for dozens of national commercials featuring products like Nordstrom, Toyota, S&W Fine Foods, Gallo Wines, Best Western and L'Ermitage Hotels to mention a few. (Click here to enjoy Kate's commercial Voice Over demo ...) Also an ASCAP Songwriter, Kate recently wrote the music and lyrics to “The Animal’s First Christmas”, a tender Christmas carol for children. It tells of the animals that stood around the baby Jesus on that first night..each sweetly observing him and commenting on what they see. She plans to donate at least 25% of all profits to the non-profit 501 (c) 3 she founded, the Critter Coalition, to raise enough money to be able to give grants to individuals and other organizations who, like her, care about animal welfare enough to work for positive changes in legislation as well as in their communities. See Pay Pal on the Critter Coalition site) Locally, Kate has enjoyed several community service awards. In 2003, she was honored as the "Desert Woman of the Year" and now, in 2007, is being acknowledged as a “Woman of Distinction in the Arts” by the prestigious National League of American Penwomen. This year Kate will enjoy her 8th year as MC Emeritus for the delightful "Pets On Parade" July fund raiser that benefits the horses of "Pegasus, Riding Academy for the Handicapped" and the no-cost/low-cost Spay and Neuter Program of "Animal Samaritans", a premiere desert animal assistance organization. (See links to both on our "Pet Help Sites" page.) Kate has also founded and is the “hands-on” Director for “The Critter Coalition”, a non-profit organization that “helps people help their pets” by assisting with food, care and vet bills when possible, especially for Seniors and the disabled. (click on Critter Coalition button on right side of any page to know more) Kate's Philosophy “Since over 50% of our desert population is 50+ and most have dogs or cats, it's practically a "mission" for me to be sure CritterChitChat.com provides pertinent, sometimes life saving, information for everyone in the pet loving community." "In the end" Kate says," what we’ve done to make the world a kinder place for critters and the people who love them will, for me, count the most. I want my life to be a personal experience, filled with what makes my heart sing. One of the things that does that for me is the joy in the eyes of my pets as I walk thru the door. My arrival home, for instance, makes us all "shine" and I know I am not alone in this. There are millions of others who experience the same kind of delight. Actually, I think the world would be a lot better place if we'd all concentrate on becoming the person our pets already believe us to be!" she laughs. "I welcome everyone to CritterChitChat.com. This web site, along with the love of our pets, can serve to give us all a place to come when we need to bask in the glow that only other animal lovers can understand ... Who knows? If it all goes well, CritterChitChat.com might just come to be where we come to get OUR ears scratched!!"
